Just toward the ocean, and south of Portland, <a href="http://www.oregon.gov/ODF/TSF/nehalem.shtml">Nehalem Falls campground</a> was one of the better sites I&#8217;ve been to in Oregon; almost all these car camps have great facilities (vault toilets, water pumps, etc.). Luxurious, but not European deluxe. There were some teenagers that camped nearby that were a little loud at night, but not terribly obnoxious. They slept in their cars <img src='http://footnoteblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' /> . A fabulous drive through is included in the package, but don&#8217;t miss the campground down the gravel road like I did. <img src='http://footnoteblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><a href="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-2-1.jpg" onclick="window.open('http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-2-1.jpg','popup','width=640,height=425,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false"><img src="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-2-1-tm.jpg" height="265" width="400" border="1" align="bottom" hspace="4" vspace="4" alt="Picture-2-1" /></a><br />
In the late afternoon light, kids frolicked and toasted toes and marshmallows. But, what fabulous light you say?</p>
<p><a href="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-4-1.jpg" onclick="window.open('http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-4-1.jpg','popup','width=640,height=425,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false"><img src="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-4-1-tm.jpg" height="265" width="400" border="1" align="bottom" hspace="4" vspace="4" alt="Picture-4-1" /></a><br />
Just how much mastery of the sun can one have? How can the light balance so perfectly and light subjects so well in the middle of a forest?</p>
<p><a href="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-6-1.jpg" onclick="window.open('http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-6-1.jpg','popup','width=640,height=425,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false"><img src="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-6-1-tm.jpg" height="265" width="400" border="1" align="bottom" hspace="4" vspace="4" alt="Picture-6-1" /></a><br />
Quite easily, actually…</p>
<p>If you brought your light with you!</p>
<p><a href="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-3-1.jpg" onclick="window.open('http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-3-1.jpg','popup','width=640,height=425,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false"><img src="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-3-1-tm.jpg" height="265" width="400" border="1" align="bottom" hspace="4" vspace="4" alt="Picture-3-1" /></a><br />
Oh, my; the secret is revealed!<br />
<a href="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-5.jpg" onclick="window.open('http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-5.jpg','popup','width=640,height=425,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false"><br />
</a><a href="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-5-1.jpg" onclick="window.open('http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-5-1.jpg','popup','width=640,height=425,scrollbars=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=yes,left=0,top=0');return false"><img src="http://footnoteblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/picture-5-1-tm.jpg" height="265" width="400" border="1" align="bottom" hspace="4" vspace="4" alt="Picture-5-1" /></a><br />
I kept telling <a href="http://www.masaladose.com/">Jonathan</a> that it&#8217;s not waterproof.</p>
<p>Additionally, <a href="http://client.sattadesign.com/nehalem/">there are more photos in the gallery</a> for your perusal, including a well-if-that-thirty-something-dad-is-going-to-then-I-will sequence of Kale launching off a 15ft. drop. <strong><a href="http://client.sattadesign.com/nehalem/">more»</a></strong></p>
