Just toward the ocean, and south of Portland, Nehalem Falls campground was one of the better sites I’ve been to in Oregon; almost all these car camps have great facilities (vault toilets, water pumps, etc.). Luxurious, but not European deluxe. There were some teenagers that camped nearby that were a little loud at night, but not terribly obnoxious. They slept in their cars
. A fabulous drive through is included in the package, but don’t miss the campground down the gravel road like I did.

In the late afternoon light, kids frolicked and toasted toes and marshmallows. But, what fabulous light you say?

Just how much mastery of the sun can one have? How can the light balance so perfectly and light subjects so well in the middle of a forest?
If you brought your light with you!

Oh, my; the secret is revealed!

I kept telling Jonathan that it’s not waterproof.
Additionally, there are more photos in the gallery for your perusal, including a well-if-that-thirty-something-dad-is-going-to-then-I-will sequence of Kale launching off a 15ft. drop. more»
